Ian and Meryl have produced an album of country dances with links to Jane Austen, her life and literary works.

Dances on the album are suitable for historical country dancing and are a mixture of longways duple minors, 3 couple sets, a cotillion and a contre danse. The album comes with a sheet of original instructions and each dance page has the original instructions and a suggested interpretation.

The dances are:

  1. The Author – for Jane Austen
  2. Fanny the Fair – for Fanny Price from the novel Mansfield Park
  3. Mr Edward’s Hornpipe – for Edward Ferrars from the novel Sense and Sensibility
  4. Tilney Park – for Henry Tiley from the novel Northanger Abbey
  5. The Sophia Waltz – for Sophia Croft from the novel Persuasion and Sophia Grey from the novel Sense and Sensibility
  6. Miss Bennets or the Laleston whim – for the Bennett sisters in the novel Pride and Prejudice
  7. Miss Watson’s Favourite – for MIss Watson from the novel Pride and Prejudice and for the novel The Watsons
  8. La Lucas – for Charlotte Lucas from the novel Pride and Prejudice
  9. Wentworth Park – for Captain Frederick Wentworth from the novel Persuasion
  10. Emma’s Fancy – for Emma Woodhouse from the novel Emma
  11. La Rose – music for a dance called La Rose was discovered in Jane Austen;s handwritten manuscript books
  12. Prussian or Bath Waltz – for Bath, Jane Austen;s hometown for several years
  13. Mrs Elliot’s delight – for Anne Elliot from the novel Persuasion
  14. Portsmouth Harbour – for Jane Austen’s brothers Francis and Charles who were in the Royal Navy and whom she often visited in Portsmouth
  15. Hampshire Fencibles – for the English county Jane Austen was born in and lived for much of her life
